Mathematics are a lively science in rapid development. Indeed, the impact of mathematics is now being felt on all scientific disciplines. Mathematics institutes throughout the world have an important role to play in making connections with and between disciplines that are using sophisticated mathematical tools, as well as with the industrial sector, where complex mathematical problems are surfacing more and more frequently. In this light, the CRM has developed its own multidisciplinary and industrial policy. Four of its nine laboratories are in leading multidisciplinary fields: brain imaging, statistics, quantum computing, and mathematics applied to numerical analysis and differential equations. On its own, or in partnership with the Network of Centres of Excellence MITACS, ncm2 (both co-founded by the CRM) or the PNSDC, every year in addition to its regular laboratory activities, the CRM organizes schools, workshops and conferences that attract hundreds of people from academia and industry alike, on key subjects of strategic interest for the Quebec and Canadian economy.
