The Workshop Committee for MPE 2013 is interested in receiving proposals for workshops that would happen in the year 2013 and are related to issues facing the planet earth. This committee will assist proposers in finding funding and venues for the workshops that seem to best fit the ideals of this initiative.
The MPE2013 workshop committee asks that you send your ideas for workshops to mpe_workshops@aimath.org
Guide for Preliminary Proposals for MPE 2013 Workshops
All preliminary proposals should contain:
- a list of the workshop topics and mathematical/scientific areas;
- a two to three page description of the workshop;
- a list of the organizers;
- the proposed size of the workshop;
- a list of potential participants;
The proposals should include a two to three page description of the workshop focus, specific goals, and anticipated outcomes. The proposal should also include how the workshop fits into the goals of the MPE 2013 initiative, in particular, how it would highlight the impact and role of the Mathematical Sciences in solving the problems of the planet. Emphasis should be placed on the timeliness of the topics. If appropriate, please also describe how the proposal is cross disciplinary.
Ideally the participant list should also be diverse. In the experience of most institutes, when there is a female mathematician on the organizing committee of a workshop, it often generates a more diverse list of speakers. In addition, more female mathematicians attend workshops that have women among the organizers and speakers. So it is beneficial to include an excellent female researcher in the appropriate area who might consider serving on the organizing committee.
