Partition function large N asymptotics beyond the one cut case

Abstract: We derive the first term of the large N asymptotics of the partition function of Hermitian one-matrix models beyond the so called one-cut case. The formula obtained is formally very close to the formula derived for the small dispersion limit in the theory of the Korteweg de Vries equation.
