Overview

The 2011 fall semester will focus on quantum information science, a field whose main goals are to understand the fundamental nature of information in a quantum mechanical world while simultaneously trying to exploit that understanding for technological gain. Workshops will explore the latest advances in quantum cryptography, quantum algorithms and quantum information theory as well as connections between quantum information and many-body physics. These workshops will strengthen existing links with branches of mathematics including random matrix theory, asymptotic geometric analysis, representation theory and free probability.

The semester will culminate with the premier annual conference in the field, Quantum Information Processing (QIP), which will bring together 300 of the leading researchers in theoretical aspects of quantum information.
