I will survey my recent work with Fernando C. Marques, where we used Min-max Theory to solve some long standing open questions in geometry.

Min-max Theory and Geometry III

I will explain how to use Min-max Theory to find infinitely many minimal hypersurfaces in manifolds with positive Ricci curvature. This is joint work with Fernando C. Marques which partially answers a conjecture of Yau from 1982.

BIOGRAPHIE

André Neves est professeur de mathématiques au Imperial College London. Il a obtenu son doctorat à Stanford University en 2005 sous la direction de Richard Schoen. Professeur Neves a contribué de façon exceptionnelle à l’analyse géométrique et à la géométrie différentielle. En particulier, dans ses travaux conjoints avec F.C. Marques, il a prouvé la conjecture de Willmore un des fameux problèmes ouverts dans le domaine qui est demeuré non résolu durant presqu’un demi siècle. André Neves a reçu de nombreux honneurs pour ses travaux, incluant le prix LMS Whitehead 2013 et une invitation en tant conférencier au ICM 2014 à Séoul.

BIOGRAPHY

André Neves is Professor of Mathematics at Imperial College London. He obtained his Ph.D. at Stanford University in 2005 under the supervision of Richard Schoen. Professor Neves made outstanding contributions to geometric analysis and differential geometry. In particular, in his joint work with F.C. Marques, he proved Willmore's conjecture, which was one of the most famous open problems in the field that remained unsolved for almost half a century. André Neves received numerous recognitions for his work, including the 2013 LMS Whitehead Prize and an invitation to speak at the 2014 ICM in Seoul.
