The past decades have seen several major breakthroughs in our understanding of the structure of algebraic varieties both from the algebraic geometric side and from the complex analytic side. A major intersection of the two sides has to do with certain structural conjectures of Serge Lang that have catalyzed some of these advances. We wish to bring some experts in this area together for an interaction on an international scale to expound the new ideas and to introduce the rapid developments to a new generation of mathematicians. This conference is intended as a small memorial to Serge Lang.
