Abstract

Biography

Jean Paul Delahaye is specialized in artificial intelligence and computer science professor and researcher at the Laboratoire d'informatique fondamentale of the Université des sciences et technologies in Lille, France. He is a publisher for Pour la Science, a publication in which he has written several articles. He has also written several books communicating science to the public, notably, Le Fascinant nombre Pi, Les nombres premiers and L'intelligence et le calcul. His book Le Fascinant nombre Pi, has led to the Alembert Prize 1998 of the Société Mathématique de France. In 1999, he was awarded the Premier prix Auteur 1999 de la Culture Scientifique of the Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale de la Recherche et de la Technologie (France). Jean-Paul Delahaye is also a scientific adviser in mathematics and the author of articles for the Encyclopedia Universalis.

Grandes Conférences du CRM

The CRM's "Grandes conférences" series invites scientists with a gift for communicating the most exciting recent developments in mathematics to a curious general public. From cryptography and quantum computing to chaos in meteorological or financial systems, and brain imaging or revolutions in biotechnology, all of the conferences reveal the power and beauty of cutting-edge mathematical research in a language accessible to all.
