## Gus Lehrer - Aisenstadt Chair Lecture Series

**Gus Lehrer (The University of Sydney)**

Gus Lehrer is an Emeritus Professor at the School of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Sydney. He was also a member of the Pure Mathematics research group. He received his PhD in 1971 at the University of Warwick.

His research interests are algebraic and geometric aspects of representation theory; reductive algebraic groups, particularly over finite fields; Algebraic geometry, spaces of configurations in algebraic varieties; Hecke and other algebras. Cohomological group actions; Knot-theoretic algebra, including diagram algebras and braid groups.

- 1998: Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science (FAA)
- 1999: Humboldt Research Award, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany

- 2015: Hannan Medal, Australian Academy of Science
- 2016: George Szekeres Medal (joint), Australian Mathematical Society
- 2016: Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to tertiary mathematics education as an academic and researcher, and to professional and community groups
